Three-day online training with Karachi journalists

One Three-day online training with Karachi journalists organized on topic of “Building a Bulletproof Digital News Startup with Special Focus on Media, Gender & Women Leadership”.

17-19 Dec 2020, Karachi: Global Neighborhood for Media Innovation (GNMI) in collaboration with Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) organized a virtual training of journalists covering an array of news beats. Training was conducted online due to current Covid-19 situation in the country.

The objective of this initiative was to assist the participants in identifying their niche, develop it as solid product and guide them on how to monetize from it. Another aspect of the training was to impart knowledge regarding gender sensitive journalism to produce quality content that would appeal to women news consumers resulting in higher outreach.

To ensure quality of training GNMI has arranged trainers with extensive industry experience and knowledge of training subject. The training was led by seasoned journalist, researcher, media trainer, and development communication specialist Mr. Aoun Sahi (Pulitzer winner, LA Times).

Our co-trainer was Ms. Zena Barakat, a journalist with 12 years’ experience under the belt working with New York Times, ABC News, Bloomberg News and National Geographic. Our guest speaker was Mr. Ali Raza, Pakistan’s top blogger having extensive experience in digital media startups and digital media marketing.

Amidst current media crisis, these trainings would prove beneficial for participants who are in financial distress during Covid-19 crises.

GNMI is a nonprofit organization with the vision of an independent, pluralistic, and innovative media that empowers every individual, community, and democracy at all levels.
